Excluding non magnum calibers, do not get to hyped on the more velocity is better line of thinking. Below .357 magnum velocity, (1250 fps or so & greater) speed does not matter very much… (Sure, modern bullet designs are a bit better… Still, lots of marketing hype prevails…) What matters most in non-magnum calibers are in this order; Bullet diameter, big bullets make big holes…, Bullet weight, heavy bullets penetrate deeper. According to the FBI stats., only 20-25% of hollow ammunition expands in real world statistics… (People get all upset, then start with the rebuttals with all the yeah buts, etc…) Think what you want… So, if you carry a 9mm, you may want to have the first 3-4 rounds you fire are of the light and fast hollow point ammo (With the hope of expansion…) then the remaining rounds in your magazine heavy weight, deep penetrating type ammunition for your EDC. Regardless, you are the weapon. Train often. Carry always. You will be potent.
